What an LED sign board actually is
A frame, a translucent printed face, and LEDs inside. The light passes through the face so the graphic glows.
Simple in principle, and the difference between a good one and a poor one comes down to two things: whether the LEDs are spaced correctly for the depth of the box, and whether the printed face is dense enough to look right both lit and unlit.
Lit and unlit are two different designs
This is the part most people do not consider. Your sign is unlit for a good part of the day, and a graphic optimised only for the lit state can look washed out in daylight.
We proof both states so you see the sign as it will actually appear in the morning and in the evening.
Even illumination is a specification, not luck
Patchy signs — visible bright spots through the face — are caused by LED spacing set too wide for the box depth. Shallow box, close spacing. Deeper box, wider spacing permitted.
It is decided before anything is built, and it cannot be corrected later without opening the sign up.

Why do some illuminated signs look patchy?
Almost always LED spacing set too wide for the depth of the box, so you see bright spots instead of an even glow. A shallow box needs closely spaced modules; a deeper box can space them further apart. It is a specification decision made before fabrication, and it cannot be fixed afterwards without opening the sign.
How long do the LEDs last?
Good modules are rated for tens of thousands of hours, so years of evening operation. What usually fails first is the power supply, not the LEDs, which is why it is worth asking where the driver sits and whether it can be reached without dismantling the sign.
Single or double sided?
Single sided for a sign flat against a wall. Double sided for a projecting or blade sign read from both directions along a street — common and effective for a shop set back from the road or in a row of similar frontages.
Does it need an electrician?
Yes, it needs a proper power connection, and that is part of the installation carried out by the licensed partner rather than something to arrange separately.
