The card is a functional object
A business card has one job: to let someone contact you three weeks after they met you. Everything else is secondary to the phone number being legible and the card surviving a wallet.
That is worth saying because the problems we see most often are practical rather than aesthetic — type set at six point because the design got crowded, a dark background nobody can write a note on, or a gloss finish on a card people are expected to write on.
Choosing a finish
Matt lamination is the safe default. Flat, resists fingerprints, easy to read, and works with almost any design.
Gloss lamination makes colours and photographs stronger. It also shows every fingerprint and is difficult to write on.
Soft-touch is matt with a velvety surface. You notice it immediately when you pick the card up, which is the entire point of it.
Spot UV applies gloss to selected areas only, usually a logo, over a matt background. Used sparingly it looks considered. Used across the whole card it just looks like gloss lamination and costs more.
Foil presses metallic gold or silver into the card. It suits marks with clean, solid shapes, and does not work well on fine detail or photographs.
Quantities
Cards are printed in sheets, so the cost per card falls sharply as the quantity rises — the difference between 100 and 500 cards is much smaller than you would expect. If several people in the company need cards, quoting them together is almost always cheaper than ordering one box at a time.
Questions
Business cards: Common questions
What card weight should I choose?
350gsm is the standard for a business card in the UAE and is what most people expect when they take one from you. 300gsm is noticeably lighter and better suited to large runs where cost matters most. 400gsm feels substantially more solid and is worth the difference if the card is doing real work for you in meetings.
Can I have English on one side and Arabic on the other?
Yes, and it is very common in Dubai. We set the Arabic properly rather than running your details through a translation tool, including the correct form of your job title and your company name as it appears on your trade licence.
What is the difference between matt and soft-touch lamination?
Matt lamination is a flat, non-reflective finish that resists fingerprints. Soft-touch is also matt but has a velvety texture you notice the moment you pick the card up. Soft-touch costs more and is usually chosen where the card itself is part of the impression you want to make.
Can you print from my existing design file?
Yes. Send a PDF, AI or EPS file and we will check it for bleed, resolution and colour before printing, and tell you if anything needs adjusting rather than printing a problem.
